I just wanted to take the time to wish all From up North’s followers and visitors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! And thanks for all your wonderful support and help spreading the word about the site and it’s content, without you the site would be nothing!

The last couple of month has been amazing and I strongly believe that 2011 is going to be an even better year! So far I’ve been running this site on my spare time, gathering as much info as a possible and posting as often as I can. However, as of the new year I’m planning on starting my own creative agency and will also try to focus more on the blog, making it bigger and better. I have a lot of plans but two things that I can mention now is that the site will get better perfomance and get a little facelift. If you have any thoughts on how I can improve the site, feel free to drop a line in the comments below or use the contact form to send me an email.

Oh yeah, one more thing! Below is a wallpaper that I did today… ;)

Once again, thank you and happy holidays!

if you have a minut, come and see my work on my blog. I’m new in the web design industry and i need critical comments to evolve.

Hittade hit för bara några månader sedan och blev kär på ett ögonblick. Jag måste säga att du gör ett bra riktigt arbete med bloggen. Fortsätt så och lycka till med företaget!

God jul och gott nytt år! :D

Nice wallpaper. I’m using it now. I take it you did the + in C4D.

That reminds me, I meant to ask you. Is your logo a plus sign that points Northeast or is it a sort of crucifix?

    • Thanks Joe, glad you like it! Yep, did the + in C4D and the most of the texturing in Photoshop. ;)

In all of the scandinavian flags you can find a cross like symbol in the center. It’s this symbol that I’ve rotated 45 degrees so it points upwards. Wanted to make a pretty simple logo with a connection to where Im from.

Nice. I like it a lot. Did you use Gorilla’s lighting kit or setup your own? Anytime I’m setting up a shape (or type) like that I can never get that clean, glossy candy-like look. Thought it was my lighting but even with the Light studio I’m having issues achieving that look.

        • For this one I made a really simple rig on my own. I turned off the “Auto light” and used a ordinary light with area shadows and “Global Illumination” activated. The light is positioned slightly towards the camera so that a slight gradient applies to the logo. The speculars on the right edges are made in Photoshop. If you like I can email you the files so you can take a closer look?
