No offence but these are getting very samey. Every week is a slight variation on the previous week.

I’d also question whether much of the work could be categorised as typography, considering the borderline illegibility of much of the work. Decorative type effects, yes, typography, not really.

Yes, Alex Trochut must find all of this terribly flattering!

  • hank

yes, I agree, i stop by this site all the time, and most of the typography tends to look the same, need something new to be inspired.

My personal opinion is that this blog has much better content than most other design blogs, including the typography section. But sure, a bit more variation would be nice.

    Thanks for your input, guys!
I’ll take your thoughts with me and will try to widen these galleries in the future.

What kind of typography would you like to see in these posts?
Let me know what styles you like by posting a link. :)

This is my first visit, and I think you’re doing a great job!

@Daniel Nelson thanks for responding to the feedback.

I’d like to see more real world typography examples. A lot of what gets posted look like either personal work or student work. Look for elegant and original typography in the world around you, not just from Behance or Deviant Art. Design not decoration. Type that’s properly kerned and expertly set. Look on wine bottles, packaging and signage.

I always enjoy visiting this blog as well, more so than most, but I do have to agree to an extent with some of the other comments. I think incorporating some 3d type or type made out of real objects would be cool to see also.

  • Captain Morgan

I agree with Eric that this blog is more enjoyable than most – light years ahead of the likes of Abduzoodoododo or whatever it’s called. The authors of From Up North clearly have a good eye and great taste, just need to widen the net a bit is all. Sorry if I came off as being negative, don’t mean to be an ***hole.

Hehe, no worries mate! I really want to make this site bigger and better so your input is really important! I’m actually aware that some of you guys find the galleries a bit samey. The main reason for this is that this site is only runned by one single person, moi. So I can agree that my personal taste gets some what over representated. Unlike some other blogs I dont have a crew that frequently publish stuff, so 5-6 posts per week is usually what I can find material for. Only about 3-4% of the content is submitted by others. One thing that I’ve always strived for is that From up North should stand for quality, not quantity.

Thanks again for your comments, guys!
I’ll try to widen the styles of these galleries and will also try to get more authors to mix things up a bit! :)
